EARLY CHILDHOOD SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: Ability to work with a variety of groups, teachers, parents and children in homes, daycares, and preschools. Demonstrate ability to plan, direct, implement and evaluate successful learning environments. Knowledge of primary service provider approach to services is preferred but all candidates will be considered.

REQUIRED RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB TASKS:

  1. Evaluate children, birth through 21, who are referred for a speech and language assessment, reviews all formal and informal diagnostic information, and relates the results to members of a multidisciplinary team.

  1. Participate in MDT meetings to determine verification.

  1. Participate in IEP/IFSP conferences to meet educational needs of individuals.

  1. Perform services according to federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines.

  1. Attend ESU 7 Special Education and Speech-Language Department meetings.

  1. Coordinate and exchange ideas through conferences and consultation with school personnel and colleagues.

  1. Schedule classes/sessions for students verified as speech-language impaired at assigned schools or home based settings.

  1. Maintain an active interest in professional development by attending pertinent conferences, conventions, and meetings.

  1. Provide referral information to other specialists when further evaluation or service is indicated.

  1. Confer regularly with parents and teachers regarding diagnostic information, student progress, method of instruction, program changes, and carryover skills.

  1. Maintain communication with cooperating agencies involved in the education of students receiving speech and language services.

  1. Provide teachers and families of children receiving home-based services with assistance, when needed, regarding the writing of specific speech and/or language objectives and appropriate speech and/or language stimulation programs.

  1. Provide classroom-based instruction to teacher, support staff (as appropriate) and families to integrate improved communication into the child's daily routine.

  1. Utilize technology effectively.

  1. Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents within all districts served.

  1. Adhere to all ESU7 policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.

  1. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Education and Training — Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  2. English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  3. Communications and Media — Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
  4. Psychology — Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  5. Coordination — Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.
  6. Speaking — Talking to others to convey information effectively.
  7. Reading Comprehension — Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  8. Writing — Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
